The Paris Township Trustees are charged with taking care of public cemeteries (not owned by a religious society or a corporation) in the unincorporated portions of the township. The township periodically mows the cemeteries and keeps them clean and maintained.

Paris Township Cemetery Rules

  1. Cemeteries include Liberty and New Franklin
  2. The cemeteries are open daily from dawn to dusk
  3. All parking of vehicles is limited to the driveways only. The speed limit is 10 MPH.
  4. No Funeral services shall be scheduled on Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Christmas.
  5. The monuments, grave stones and or grave markers are not the property and/or responsibility of the township.  The repairs, straightening, and/or maintenance are the responsibility of the owner and/or heirs.  Monuments can be insured against damage.  Please contact your insurance agent.
  6. All foundations will be poured by the township at the head of the grave and at a minimum, of 36 inches deep.  The township dictates when foundations are poured.
  7. Only one monument, Statuary, and/or Bench is permitted at the head of each grave and shall be no taller than 30 inches including the base.
  8. There shall be no planting of trees, shrubs, brushes, or invasive perennials.
  9. There shall be no fencing, timbers, stones, plastic boards, or landscaping stones permitted.
  10. No official cemetery grave markers shall be disturbed or removed.
  11. Flowers are permitted to be planted one foot in front of stone.  The township will not be responsible for any flowers or decorations that are damaged during regular maintenance operations and/or digging of graves.
  12. There shall be no plantings beside or behind the monuments, grave stones, and/or grave markers.
  13. No inappropriate language or engravings are permitted on the grave, Monument, Statuary, and/or Bench.  Removal of such shall be at the expense of the owner and/or heirs.
  14. All funeral processions have the right of way on the driveways during funerals.  Please move your vehicles in respect of the deceased.
  15. All decorations must be removed by April 1st.
  16. All unwanted debris at Liberty cemetery can be disposed of in designated area.
  17. If an owner of a grave(s) desires to sell their grave(s), they must sell it back to the township.  The township will refund the original purchase price.
  18. If an owner of a grave(s) desires to sell the grave(s) to an immediate family member, they must contact the township, and submit their original deed.  There is a $50.00 transfer fee per grave.
  19. All burials require a cement vault.
  20. At Liberty Cemetery, the township will allow one full burial and up to two cremations per grave.
